Our Story

Beale built pianos in Sydney for the better part of a century. Jones Beale begins where that story stopped.

Beale

In 1893 Octavius Charles Beale founded the Beale piano company in Sydney. It built its own instruments at its Annandale works and grew into one of the largest piano makers in the southern hemisphere, selling across Australia and beyond. Australian production ended in the 1970s.

Original Beale pianos are still found in homes, halls and schools across the country. Many are structurally sound a century on, which is where Jones Beale begins.

The family

Jones Beale was founded by Octavius Beale's great-great-grandchild. The name joins the two families, and the work continues what the first Beale started in a new form.

Why Jones Beale exists

Restoring a Beale to its original appearance is one way to honour it. We chose another. Each Jones Beale piece preserves the instrument and its history and completely reimagines its exterior, so that a hundred-year-old Australian piano can sit in a contemporary room as an instrument, a piece of furniture and a work of art at once.

Each design has its own name and story. Some are one of one. A few will become extremely limited designs. Jones Beale 001 is reserved for a future flagship piece.
