Jones Beale

An unfinished legacy.

Worn ivory keys and the aged timber of an old upright piano

From 1893, Octavius Charles Beale built pianos in Sydney.

More than a century on, his great-great-grandchild builds them again.

Not restored. Reimagined.

Original Australian Beale pianos, transformed into one‑of‑one contemporary pieces.

The instrument and its history stay. The exterior is reimagined in timber, resin, lacquer and light, by the great-great-grandchild of the man who founded Beale.

Since 1893.

Octavius Charles Beale founded the Beale piano company in Sydney in 1893. Jones Beale was founded by his great-great-grandchild, and carries that piano-making heritage into a completely different modern form.

Our Story

From Beale to Jones Beale

Every piece follows the same order: the instrument first, the design second.

  1. Sourced

An original Beale is found and chosen for the integrity of its frame, soundboard and action.

  2. Restored

The instrument is restored and prepared before any design work begins.

  3. Reimagined

Cabinet, finish, resin, hardware and light are built to the design's own identity.

  4. Tuned

Specialist piano technicians service and tune the mechanism before the piece leaves the workshop.

The Process

A Jones Beale made for you.

Bring us a Beale you own, or let us source one, and we will design a piece around it.
